Hydrofluoric acid, hot concentrated sulfuric acid containing hydrogen peroxide and nitric acids are the best solvents. It reacts with chlorine at high temperatures to create zirconium trichloride. Zirconia is created by burning air at 700. ZrC is inert with water.
