About Nitinol Nickel Titanium Ni-Ti Alloy Powder:
Nickel-titanium alloy, also called Nitinol Powder, is a metal alloy of nickel and titanium, in which the atomic percentages of the two elements are roughly equal. Different alloys are named according to the weight percentage of nickel, such as nickel. Nitinol 55 and Nitinol 60. It shows the shape memory effect and superelasticity at different temperatures.
Ni Ti is a shape memory alloy, a special alloy that can automatically restore its plastic deformation to its original shape at a certain temperature. Its expansion rate exceeds 20%, its fatigue life reaches 7 times 1 * 10, its damping characteristics are 10 times that of ordinary springs, and its corrosion resistance is better than the best medical stainless steel at present, so it can meet a variety of Engineering requirements and is an excellent functional material to meet the needs of medical applications.
In addition to having a unique shape memory function, memory alloys also have excellent characteristics such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, high damping and superelasticity.

Nitinol metal has two closely related and unique properties: shape memory effect and superelasticity (also called pseudoelasticity). Shape memory is the ability of Nitinol to deform at a temperature, maintain its deformed shape when an external force is removed, and then restore its original undeformed shape when heated above its “transition temperature”. Superelasticity is the ability of a metal to withstand large deformations and immediately restore its undeformed shape after the external load is removed. Nitinol 3d printing deforms 10 to 30 times that of ordinary metals and restores its original shape. Whether Nitinol alloy exhibits shape memory effect or superelasticity depends on whether it is higher than the transition temperature of a particular alloy. Below the transition temperature, it exhibits a shape memory effect; above the transition temperature, it exhibits superelasticity. How is Nitinol Nickel Titanium Ni-Ti Alloy Powder produced?
Nitinol is extremely difficult to manufacture due to the need for very strict composition control and the excellent reactivity of titanium. Every atom in titanium that combines with oxygen or carbon is an atom taken from the nitinol chemical composition lattice, which changes the composition and lowers the phase transition temperature. There are two main melting methods:
Vacuum arc remelting (VAR)
This is achieved by generating an arc between the raw material and the water-cooled copper strike plate. The melting is done under a high vacuum, and the mold itself is water-cooled copper.
Vacuum induction melting (VIM)
This is done by heating the raw material in a crucible (usually carbon) using an alternating magnetic field. This is also done under a high vacuum.
Although these two methods have their advantages, it has been proven that compared with the VART smelting process, the VIM smelting process material has lower inclusions and thus has higher fatigue resistance. Other research reports point out that the use of ultra-high-purity plasticizers from raw materials can reduce the number of inclusions and improve fatigue performance. Other methods can also be used on a boutique scale, including plasma arc melting, induction skull melting and electron beam melting. Physical vapor deposition is also used on a laboratory scale.
The hot working of Nitinol is relatively easy, but cold working is difficult, because the huge elasticity of the alloy increases the contact between the mold or the roller, resulting in huge frictional resistance and tool wear. For similar reasons, machining is very difficult, and worse, the thermal conductivity of Nitinol is very poor, so it is difficult to remove heat. Grinding (abrasive cutting), electrical discharge machining (EDM) and laser cutting are all relatively easy.
Applications of Nitinol Nickel Titanium Ni-Ti Alloy Powder:
The tensile strength du of Nitinol can reach 1000 MPa. In other words, it takes more than 100 dry grams of force per square millimeter to break it, which is stronger than ordinary steel, and also has good “memory” performance and corrosion resistance.
Nitinol alloy contains 50% nickel and 50% titanium, that is, the components of nickel and titanium are equally divided, each accounting for half. The temperature range of its shape memory can be adjusted by controlling the components. Generally, the higher the nickel content of Nitinol, the lower the working temperature. When it contains 55% nickel and 45% titanium, the memory alloy can work at room temperature.
People have made use of this characteristic of shape memory alloy to make pearl necklaces and bracelets made of shape memory alloy wires, and bras woven with shape memory alloy wires. Wearing these decorations and health products on the body will restore the original curvature and stiffness under the action of the body temperature, thereby playing a decorative and health care function.
Besides, you can also use Nitinol alloy to make orthodontic wires to correct deformed teeth using human oral temperature.
Nitinol can be used to replace traditional actuators (solenoids, servo motors, etc.), such as the simple six-legged robot Stiquito.
Nitinol springs are used for fluid thermal valves, where the material acts as both a temperature sensor and an actuator.
The alloy is used as an auto-focus actuator in sports cameras and as an optical image stabilizer in mobile phones.
Alloys are used in pneumatic valves to achieve comfortable seats and have become industry standards.
The alloy Chevrolet Corvette contains a nickel-titanium memory alloy actuator, which replaces the heavier electric transmission to open and close the hatch to release air from the torso, making it more accessible.
Nitinol Titanium Ni-Ti Alloy Powder Storage Conditions:
Damp reunion will affect its dispersion performance and using effects, therefore, this product should be sealed in vacuum and stored in cool and dry room and it should not be exposure to air. In addition, the product should be avoided under stress.
